Default How Cool Is the Prophecies Story Line??? [SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS]

I finally got away from pvp for a while, and got my "new", but made ages ago monk out of ascalon, and into the vast stretches of Tyria. I just noticed that, playing through a prophecies character is MUCH more slow paced than playing a factions character.
So i jus thought I'd start a discussion on how cool the prophecies storyline really is, and how much I'd be missing if i decided to never create a prophecies character out of convenience. Factions seems to get you lvl 20 characters soooo much faster.

So far from what i've seen after just getting to the ruins of ascalon, all the plot elements are quite well presented (esp compared to factions). I especially had a bawl roaming around with gwen =] (not that im into 12 yr old children -_-). But... the pace is woefully slow, although my opinion is slightly biased since im a weathered player.

Opinions? is the storyline worth it for the slow pace? would i b missing out on a critical party of guildwars heritage? or is it just something you would give a pass?

[SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS]

Proph storyline is the best of all 3 chapters and 1 expansion. It's good to keep attention to details.

Not the greatest storyline, but if you bought the game I don't see why you wouldn't want to go through it...=s

I still think it's the best storyline out of all 3 games and expansion. Though it has a very slow pace I find the story the most interesting, and the main bad guy in the end the one i most enjoyed defeating ^_^. Also all the other chapters/expansion are based on what happened in and after proph, so it's nice to know the history.

Remember you could always get your factions character run to the first missions, and play the storyline through with them.

Would 'u b' missing out on crucial storyline?
No. Not really. If your only goal in the game is to hit lvl 20 and lurk in town, then none of the storylines matter at all.

Personally, I find the characters in Prophecies to be a lot more likeable.
Master Togo is a douche bag with horrible voiceovers, Kormir makes my skin crawl, as do ALL of the characters in nightfall whenever they speak in cinematics. (With Morgahn and Varesh being the only exceptions.)

I can actually take Rurik and Adelbern seriously when I have to.
Though prophecies isn't entirely without it's lame characters;
Visier Khilbron is a major tool also. Everytime I see him I expect Genie and Aladin to jump his @$$ and take back their lamp.

Prophecies had a bad story, considering you kill a dragon who is on your side, help some random rebel group, kill your allies, and have a group of people you ferried through the mountains sitting on their ass and enjoying the sun.
I like Factions more.

Prophecies was how guild wars was supposed to be. Getting to level 20 actually meant you put some time into your character, rather than just completed the starter island. There was a storyline with plot twists and a lot of different things that I felt nightfall just laked in terms of making the storyline feel epic. It's hard to explain, really... but I felt like I had accomplished something important by the time I had got to level 20 at which time they pitted me up against a seemingly impossible dragon and then decided to give me another journey to get my armor infused so the new enemies wouldn't destroy me in a few hits.

/completely agree

The richness of the story is illustrated by the wide difference between the zones you get into while following the storyline (i.e. no running here!): Ascalon, post- and pre-Searing with its unequaled look, Northern Shiverpeaks for the glacial ambiance, Kryta for the green hills and its shores, Maguuma Jungle for the forests, nature spirits and spiders, Crystal Desert for the arid environment, and Ring of Fire for the rocky lava mountains!

Not to mention the Charrs and Rurik, the Dwarves in the snowy mountains, the Ascalonians refugees finding a home in Kryta, the White Mantle, the Shining Blade, the Mursaat, Glint and Vizier Khilbron (the twist in the story that he beings is funny and makes the story so much more interesting, I still remember when I first saw the Lich in an in-game video, wondering what this had to do with the story ...)

It was the perfect balance between an RPG and a MMO, not too long and not too heavy, not too easy to level and evolve your character (I guess that FActions and Nightfall, while being still introductions to the world of GW, built on top of that, rather that recreating the wheel), but still rich enough to spend countless hours (though you can finish it quickly). I can't remember the number of hours I spend exploring (and am still doing!) and admiring the beautiful scenery.

Hope this thread will encourage PvP players playing it!

Actually I liked that team-changing stuff. That stuff about fighting a bunch of people then realizing that you fought the wrong guys and helped the guys you really should be fighting, then having to fight the guys you were fighting to help in the first place... I found it highly amusing.

That's not even sarcasm.

And I don't need a spoiler warning here. Partly because everything was spoiled earlier in the topic, partly because I wrote it all in such a bad way that it's impossible to understand what I meant.

Unless your only goal is to reach level 20 the Prophecies game is worth playing. You will find challenging missions, beautiful scenery and learn a lot of skills. I remember being stuck at some of the missions because they were so tough or I couldn't get my ranger into a group. Of course most are simple now that I know how to complete them and heroes make life much easier as I really do not like pick up groups. The missions get more challenging as your character levels and you have to change your skills and tactics with the different types of monsters.

In short...yes the game is worth playing

I LOVE proph. I made my Monk on it over NF and Factions. Proph allows you to level up while getting great party-playing experience. The story makes perfect since when it comes to leveling up. Its ok if you aren't lvl 20 by the time you get to the Crystal Desert. Its ok to leave pre before level 5. Your leveling is all made up through mish's and when you get ascended.
The story line is amazing. I finished it and was like WOAH! When I finished factions, my group killed shiro in 45 seconds. I'm working on NF now, and I'm not completely amused... too much sand imo . NF has its goods, heroes are amazing, but you don't get much of party-playing experience out of it cause you are mostly grouped with heroes and henchies. I've only done 1 mish of the 20 with someone else. We both had 3 heroes. So you lose the party-fun in NF. Factions is a guest-fest. Proph is just all around awesome.
Proph also has a very realistic world. The transitions from dirt 'n dust to mountains to grassy-beach to a jungle to a huge desert are amazing. Then you go to a fancy fire place, but thats an island lol.
Factions has an awesome map too, but it only has 4 areas of terrain. An island with a mountain and grass, a big city, a dark foresty place, and a frozen sea that was made into jade.

I don't know much about GWEN, but you do need to get to twenty on ONE of the campaigns to get into it. I'm playing all 3 stories before I go for GWEN, but that is just me.

Personally, I felt that the Prophecies storyline was more plothole than actual plot.

The first major issue I had with the Prophecies storyline was the Searing. Not that it happened, but the fact that we pick up again two years after the event. A lot can change in 2 years, and a lot did change in those 2 years. We're given a significant gap in the timeline and are forced to put all the pieces together ourselves, most of which we don't get until near the end (and some pieces are still missing even after Eye of the North).

Secondly, the whole issue of the White Mantle (and the Mursaat by extension). They're good guys - wait, they're really bad guys - no, they're good guys who do bad things - no, they're bad guys again - whoops, looks like they were really the good guys after all and now they've been virtually wiped out because we thought the real bad guy was a good guy. The whole thing makes our characters look as if they have no will of their own and are quite happy to get sucked into whatever propaganda that any other group gives to us.

My Necro went right through Prophesies and I loved every minute followed by a Mesmer and a Monk both got as far as Droknars forge then transfered to the other games.

My other characters started in Factions and Nightfall they have crossed into Lions arch just for elites and to see how they work in that world.

Still think Prophesies is the hardest game and also the best storyline.

Prophecies was the best, for it was the original. Although Nightfall introduces things such as story arcs and choosable paths, the core story is primarily merely tying together the stories of the previous two chapters (though it's still great if for some reason you don't want to get Prophecies).

Prophecies FTW. When I first passed into the Shiverpeaks, I felt so proud of myself and in awe of the new areas. When I reached Lion's Arch, not only had I felt that again, but I arrived in time for Wintersday 2005.

Oh, and ascension was very nice too.

In Factions and Nightfall, I did get a nice feeling when reaching new areas, though it felt a bit played out, and it just didn't feel as fufilling as it did in Prophecies.

I loved prophecies so much I actually fought my way to yaks COMPLETELY by exploring.

I recall when I first saw the broken stairs leading into the Shiverpeaks, surrounded by hydras (god I always hated them). I was awed beyond belief.

Prophecies is, by far, the greatest storyline out of all the campaigns/expansion. It's the only storyline that I actually liked.
